The Minnesota Lynx will be without forward Natalie Achonwa (knee) and guard Aerial Powers (thumb) indefinitely, with their absences expected to last multiple weeks.
The team said Monday that Achonwa sprained the medial collateral ligament in her right knee during an 80-64 win against the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday. Powers sprained the ulnar collateral ligament in her right thumb during the same game.
Achonwa, 28, has averaged 3.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 11.3 minutes in eight games this season, her seventh year in the WNBA. Powers, 27, has scored 10.0 points with 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in her sixth season.
A first-round pick by Indiana in 2014, Achonwa played her first six seasons with the Fever and averaged 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 168 games (97 starts). The Guelph, Ontario, native is expected to play a key role for Canada at the Tokyo Olympics, which start July 23.
The No. 5 overall selection by the Dallas Wings in 2016, Powers has averaged 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 108 career games for the Wings (2016-18), Washington Mystics (2018-2020) and the Lynx.
